Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers at Dr Karl Schmidt Aesthetics

Dermal fillers restore lost volume, lift and shape the face, and enhance rejuvenation through collagen and elastin stimulation. They can improve skin hydration while producing natural-looking contours.

How the Treatment Works

Non-surgical aesthetic treatments are growing in popularity because they are quicker, less invasive, and more subtle than plastic surgery. Dermal fillers have no downtime, are more cost-effective, and can deliver natural, youthful results. The future of aesthetic medicine lies in the correct combination of non-invasive treatments, tailored to each patient.

Facial ageing is a multifactorial process, affecting bone, fat, muscles, and skin. Biometric volume loss occurs due to bone resorption, fat loss and redistribution, and muscle atrophy. Combined with dermal collagen loss, these changes lead to lines, sagging, and hollowness.

Types of Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic Acid (HA)
Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the body, essential for maintaining skin firmness, elasticity, and moisture. HA used in aesthetic treatments is laboratory-formulated, free from human or animal tissue, and highly controlled for safety.
HA fillers are smooth gels that flow naturally into the skin, providing immediate results that are long-lasting but not permanent. They are fully resorbable, typically lasting several months.

Biostimulators (Polycaprolactone – PCL)
A newer class of filler, biostimulators combine immediate wrinkle correction with collagen stimulation for long-lasting, natural results. The most popular semi-permanent filler in this class is Ellansé, available in S, M, L, and E types, lasting from 1–4 years depending on the product.

Common Treatment Areas

Dermal fillers can address a wide variety of areas:

  • Cheek volume/enhancement to redefine cheekbones
  • Hollowing of temples
  • Naso-labial folds
  • Melomental folds (Marionette lines)
  • Lip contouring and augmentation
  • Under-eye tear troughs
  • Scars
  • Hands
  • Eyebrow lift
  • Chin and jawline enhancement

Soft fillers can also be injected superficially using microneedles, HA-pen, or a Mesogun for mesotherapy-like effects.
